Directions to Monroe County Fairgrounds ------------------------------------------------ The Monroe County Fairgrounds are located at the corner of M-50 and Raisinville Road about 5 miles west of Monroe. M-50 is a divided highway at this location, and the Fairgrounds are located on the South side of the highway. Parking can be found either off of M-50 or off of Raisinville Road. During Fair week, residents in the area offer parking as well, that can get you closer than the free lots. The band plays near the West entrance of the Fairgrounds off of Raisinville Road, so finding this entrance and parking nearby may be attractive. Be prepare for large crowds, as the Monroe County Fair is one of the largest county fairs in the state, and attracts alot of people. Once inside the Fairgrounds (there will be a nominal charge to enter), proceed to the bandshell area, which is located between the animal exhibits and the 4-H buildings along the west edge of the Fairgrounds. Ask the entry attendants for directions if this isn't clear....the Monroe Big Band has played regularly there for years as well as the Peg Harris Dance Studio. Beware of bewildered attendants who may direct you to the Grandstand--THIS IS WRONG, and on the wrong side of the grounds. ------------------------------------------------ From the Detroit or Toledo Areas (North or South): Proceed on I-75 (South from Detroit, North from Toledo) to the Monroe area. Exit on the Elm Street exit and follow Elm Street into Monroe. If you go the wrong way, you'll know it pretty quick, because you'll end up at the gates of the Monroe Ford Plant and Lake Erie. Follow Elm Street into downtown Monroe.... The 4th light that you encounter should be Monroe street (M-125). Its a fairly big intersection, and is distinguished by the fact that on the southwest corner of the intersection, there is a rather large statue of General Custer (yes, THE General Custer--Monroe is the recognized home of the General before his demise) Turn LEFT onto Monroe Street, but stay in the right lane, for just over the bridge is where you will be turning Right onto Front Street. At this point, Front Street is also labeled M-50. Follow M-50 west until it turns into a divided highway and you reach Raisinville Road. Turn left onto Raisinville Road and find parking near the West entrance. ------------------------------------------------ From the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti areas (West): You folks got it easy.... Take US-23 South to the Dundee exit (M-50). I believe its exit 17, but don't quote me. Follow M-50 East until you get to Raisinville Road, about 8 miles. Turn right onto Raisinville Road and find parking near the West entrance.
